Immediate Release: November 1, 2026

Denver, CO — Communities across Colorado and the country are making big choices about energy, land, water, and how to prepare for increasing extreme weather events. During Colorado Gives Day and the National Giving Campaign for 2026, your gift to the Climate Democracy Initiative can make a difference by supporting communities like yours in preparing for a resilient future!

CDI is joining thousands of nonprofits for Colorado Gives Day on Tuesday, Dec. 8, a statewide day of giving that unites Coloradans in support of causes and communities they care about. Early giving is happening now and continues through November into December.

“People care deeply about the places they call home, but they’re often left out of the decisions that shape their future. As climate challenges grow, we can't afford to leave communities on the sidelines,”  said CDI Executive Director Natalie Montecino.

CDI connects young people, local leaders, and partners with the tools and resources they need to shape decisions about their communities’ future. We build local capacity, move people from concern to action, and turn what communities learn on the ground into best practices others can use. The result is community-led solutions with a real seat at the decision-making table.

Ways your gift can go further:

  • Colorado Gives Foundation will match the first $100 of any new monthly gift set up during this time up to $250,000.
  • Presenting sponsor PNC is providing $100,000 in nonprofit prizes.
  • Businesses can support Colorado Gives Day and CDI by participating in the Good for Business Challenge, sponsored by Gary Community Ventures, and create a free fundraising page on ColoradoGives.org.
  • On Colorado Gives Day, Dec. 8, donors who give $100 or more to a single nonprofit are entered to win a pair of roundtrip Southwest Airline tickets every hour.

Becoming a regular donor to CDI means joining a statewide effort to back the communities where we live, our children grow up, and neighbors look out for each other. Give anytime from Nov. 1 through Dec. 8  by visiting the CDI Colorado Gives Day page.

CDI is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (EIN: 92-0943342) building people-centered systems with small and rural communities as they step forward, have a real say in decisions that affect them, and define the resources they need to shape their community’s future. Across our work, we’re ensuring communities create their own vision for development, preparing local leaders before climate disasters strike and creating meaningful leadership opportunities for young people through environmental civics education.

Colorado Gives Day, created by Colorado Gives Foundation and presented by PNC, is an annual tradition created by all this state home (and even those who don’t). It’s a time of year where all of us can come together to support the causes we care about most and help nonprofits thrive. Since 2010, Coloradans have raised over a half a billion dollars. In 2025, the event raised $56.6 million, making it one of the largest online giving movements in the nation. As presenting sponsor, PNC is proud to help connect Coloradans with the nonprofits they love and amplify the impact of every donation made. Early giving begins Nov. 1 and continues through the statewide celebration on Dec. 8. To learn more or find a nonprofit to support, visit ColoradoGives.org.
