John Powers

John Powers is a board member of the Climate Democracy Initiative. John co-founded the nonprofit Alliance for Sustainable Colorado in 2004, now named The Alliance for Collective Action. The Alliance owns and operates its LEED certified Alliance Center in Denver, which licenses office and meeting space to over 30 sustainability organizations. He was a board member of Conservation Colorado for over 20 years.

John is a board member of the Educational Foundation of America, serving on the Environment and Make Democracy Work Committees; President of the Prentice Foundation; a past management committee member of the Environmental Grantmakers Association; and steering committee member of the Environmental Affinity Groups of the Denver Foundation and Community Foundation Boulder County.

John has ranched in Rifle, CO since 1972, and has been partnering with Colorado State University’s Colorado Natural Heritage Program since 2017 on the Rifle Ranch Riparian Restoration Project. He has a BA in history and psychology from Oberlin College 1971 and an MBA from CU Boulder 1983.
